Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 runs on surprisingly modest hardware: the official minimum is a GTX 970 or GTX 1060, RX 470 or Arc A580 with a Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i5-6600 and 8GB of RAM, while the recommended spec is an RTX 3060, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580 with 12GB of RAM. The hard requirements that trip people up are not the GPU but TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, an AVX-capable CPU and about 116GB of free SSD space. For the best experience, independent benchmarks show the Radeon RX 9070 XT is unusually strong in this game, and an X3D Ryzen CPU keeps frame rates high in multiplayer.

Verdict at a glance
- Best overall GPU for Black Ops 7: Radeon RX 9070 XT. In Wccftech’s Extreme preset results it outran the RTX 5080 at 1080p and 1440p without ray tracing.
- Best value GPU: RX 9060 XT 16GB or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB class cards, which handle 1080p at well over 100fps on high settings per Wccftech’s data for the 9060 XT.
- Best CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D, with the caveat that TweakTown’s figures show the X3D lead over Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K is smaller in Black Ops 7 than in many games.
- Best for competitive 1080p: any X3D CPU plus an RX 9070 or RTX 5070 class card, on a 240Hz monitor.
- Best budget path: keep your current GPU if it meets the recommended spec, make sure you have 16GB of RAM and an SSD, and spend on a CPU upgrade if you are below a Ryzen 5 5600X.
Black Ops 7 official PC system requirements
These are the final requirements published before the game’s November 14, 2025 launch, as reported by Shacknews and matched by most other outlets.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended | Competitive / Ultra 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit (latest update) | Windows 11 64-bit (latest update) | Windows 11 64-bit (latest update) |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 1400 / Core i5-6600 | Ryzen 5 1600X / Core i7-6700K | Ryzen 5 5600X / Core i7-10700K |
| RAM | 8GB | 12GB | 16GB |
| GPU | RX 470 / GTX 970 or GTX 1060 / Arc A580 | RX 6600 XT / RTX 3060 / Arc B580 | RX 9070 XT / RTX 4080 or RTX 5070 |
| VRAM | 3GB | 8GB | 16GB |
| Storage | SSD, 116GB free | SSD, 116GB free | SSD, 116GB free |
Early listings showed a much smaller install size, and some sites still publish older “predicted” specs. The 116GB SSD figure is the final one; Turtle Beach lists 115GB, and future updates or Warzone content may need more. The Escapist’s table showed an RX 7900 XT for the top tier, which appears to be an error compared with every other source.
Requirements that block the game from launching
- TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot: both must be enabled, the same as Battlefield 6. Most PCs from the last several years support them, but they are often disabled in the BIOS by default.
- AVX instruction support: only Intel and AMD CPUs with AVX are supported.
- Resizable BAR on Intel Arc: Arc GPUs need ReBAR enabled.
- Internet connection: required, even for the campaign.
- No Linux or SteamOS: TechPowerUp noted the game does not work on Linux because of its anti-cheat, which is why its handheld review used Windows devices.
The developers listed launch drivers of AMD 25.9.2, NVIDIA 581.42 and Intel 32.0.101.8132. Those are the minimum baseline; any newer driver should be fine.

Black Ops 7 GPU benchmarks: what independent tests show
Several outlets measured desktop performance. Their figures are not directly comparable with each other because test scenes and settings differ, but the trends are consistent.
Wccftech: Extreme preset, native resolution, no ray tracing
| GPU | 1080p average fps | 1440p average fps |
|---|---|---|
| Radeon RX 9070 XT | 221 | 204 |
| GeForce RTX 5080 | 206 | 194 |
| GeForce RTX 4080 Super | 184 | 179 |
| GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | 174 | 165 |
| GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super | 163 | 154 |
| GeForce RTX 5070 | 150 | 140 |
Wccftech also recorded 136fps for the RTX 4070 and 134fps for the RX 9060 XT 16GB at 1080p on the same settings. Earlier, ComputerBase beta data reported by Wccftech showed the RX 9070 XT about 31% ahead of the RTX 5070 Ti at 1440p, a reversal of the usual pattern where the GeForce leads slightly.
Ray tracing is the big performance cost
Black Ops 7 supports ray-traced reflections, and TechPowerUp notes it was the first game with AMD’s FSR Ray Regeneration. Wccftech measured roughly a 2.8x frame rate difference between Extreme and Extreme with ray-traced reflections on High. With RT High at 1080p, the RX 9070 XT and RTX 5080 were level at about 110fps. DSOGaming saw an RTX 5090 at 4K drop from above 75fps to the 36 to 47fps range with ray-traced reflections on Low. XDA found an RX 7800 XT fell to about 28fps at 1440p with ray tracing on. For multiplayer, leave ray tracing off.
DSOGaming and Notebookcheck
DSOGaming reported that every GPU in its lineup held over 60fps at 1080p max settings, including an RTX 2080 Ti. Notebookcheck found that without ray tracing the game’s demands are moderate, with strong integrated graphics such as the Radeon 890M passing 60fps at 1080p medium.
Best CPU for Black Ops 7
Multiplayer Call of Duty is CPU-sensitive at high frame rates. FPSHeaven’s built-in benchmark run with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5070 Ti at 1080p Low averaged about 250fps, and the tool’s CPU-only estimate was around 408fps, showing the GPU was the limit. GameGPU’s CPU testing put the 9800X3D in its top group alongside the Core i9-14900K, i9-13900K, i7-14700K and i7-13700K.
The X3D advantage is smaller here than elsewhere. TweakTown, reporting figures for the newer Ryzen 7 9850X3D, said it was about 5% faster than the Core Ultra 9 285K in Black Ops 7, against 12% in Battlefield 6. That means a recent high-end Intel chip is a reasonable alternative if you already own the platform.
| Budget tier | CPU pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Ryzen 5 7600 / Core i5-14400F | Six modern cores clear the competitive spec comfortably |
| Mid-range | Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Large L3 cache improves 1% lows in busy multiplayer matches |
| High-end | Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D | Fastest gaming CPUs; leads in BO7 are smaller but still present |
| Already on Intel | Core i7-14700K or Core Ultra 9 285K | Within a few percent of X3D chips in this game per TweakTown and GameGPU |

Recommended in-game settings by tier
Black Ops 7 groups its options under a Quality Presets menu with Minimum, Basic, Balanced, Ultra and Extreme, plus an Upscaling/Sharpening section that offers DLSS, FSR and XeSS depending on your GPU, and a separate Frame Generation toggle.
| Setting | Entry GPU | Mid-range GPU | High-end GPU |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality Presets | Basic | Balanced | Ultra (Extreme for single-player) |
| Upscaling/Sharpening | FSR or XeSS Quality; DLSS Quality on RTX | DLSS or FSR 4 Quality | DLAA or native |
| Frame Generation | Off for multiplayer | Off for multiplayer | Optional for campaign only |
| Texture Resolution | Low on 4GB to 6GB cards | High on 8GB cards | Very High on 12GB+ |
| Ray-traced reflections | Off | Off | Off in multiplayer; Low to High in campaign |
| V-Sync | Off | Off | Off; use VRR and a frame cap |
Frame generation raises displayed frame rate but adds input latency, so most competitive players leave it off. On a handheld, TechPowerUp found the ROG Xbox Ally X delivers a solid 60fps at 1080p with XeSS Quality and medium settings and textures.
Upgrade priorities: what to change first
If your PC meets the minimum spec but performance disappoints, upgrade in this order. Each step is listed by how much it typically helps Black Ops 7 relative to what it costs.
- Move the game to an SSD. If it is on a hard drive or an almost-full SSD, moving it to a roomy NVMe drive fixes texture pop-in and loading hitches more than any other change.
- Fix your memory. Going from one stick to two matched sticks, enabling EXPO or XMP, and reaching 16GB total are cheap changes that lift CPU-bound frame rates.
- Upgrade the CPU if it is older than Zen 3 or Intel 10th gen. The competitive tier lists a Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i7-10700K. On AM4, a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D is a drop-in upgrade that helps multiplayer 1% lows.
- Upgrade the GPU when you want a higher resolution. At 1080p a recommended-tier card is enough for high frame rates on Balanced. Moving to 1440p or 4K is when the RX 9070 or 9070 XT class pays off.
- Upgrade the monitor last. A 165Hz to 240Hz display only helps once your system can actually produce those frame rates.
Black Ops 7 on gaming laptops and handhelds
Laptop GPUs carry the same names as desktop cards but run at lower power, so treat a laptop RTX 4060 or RTX 5060 as roughly one tier below the desktop card. Notebookcheck’s testing showed the game is moderate without ray tracing, which means most current gaming laptops with an RTX 4060 or better can hold high frame rates at 1080p on Balanced with DLSS Quality.
Two laptop-specific checks matter more than on desktop. First, make sure the game runs on the dedicated GPU rather than the integrated one; set it in Windows Graphics settings or the NVIDIA or AMD control panel. Second, use a performance power profile and keep the laptop plugged in, because battery mode often caps GPU power drastically.
On Windows handhelds, which Activision officially supports, TechPowerUp’s review of the ROG Xbox Ally X found that 1080p with XeSS Quality and medium settings and textures delivers a solid 60fps. Smaller handhelds with less powerful chips will need lower presets and more aggressive upscaling. Valve’s Steam Deck and other SteamOS devices cannot run the game because of the anti-cheat.
How to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot
- Press Windows key, type tpm.msc and check whether TPM shows as ready with version 2.0.
- If not, reboot into the BIOS. On AMD boards enable fTPM; on Intel boards enable PTT.
- In the BIOS boot section, confirm the boot mode is UEFI, not Legacy or CSM. Secure Boot requires UEFI and a GPT-formatted system drive.
- Enable Secure Boot, usually under Boot or Security, and load default keys if prompted.
- Back in Windows, run msinfo32 and check that Secure Boot State reads On.
If your system drive uses MBR, convert it with Microsoft’s MBR2GPT tool before switching off CSM, and back up first.
Common mistakes and fixes
- Installing on a hard drive: the SSD requirement is real; texture streaming stutters badly on HDDs.
- Running single-channel memory: one stick of RAM can cost a lot of CPU-bound performance. Use two matched sticks.
- Forgetting EXPO or XMP: memory running at default JEDEC speeds lowers frame rates in CPU-limited matches.
- Enabling ray tracing in multiplayer: it can cut frame rates by more than half, as Wccftech and DSOGaming measured.
- Arc GPU without ReBAR: enable Resizable BAR in the BIOS or performance will suffer.
- Old shaders after a driver update: let the game finish shader compilation before judging performance.
How we compared
We compared hardware for Black Ops 7 using the publisher’s official requirements, independent benchmark data from the sources named above, and owner reports. We did not bench-test this hardware ourselves. Patches and driver updates since launch can change results, so treat specific frame rates as a guide.
