12V-2×6 is the updated version of Nvidia’s 12-pin GPU power connector — same 16-pin layout as the original 12VHPWR, but with shorter sense pins designed to fix the connection reliability problems that caused melting-connector reports on early RTX 40-series cards. If your PSU or GPU uses this connector, the cable you pick matters more than it does for old-style 8-pin PCIe power. We pulled 11 real 12V-2×6 cables and adapters currently sold on Amazon across two searches.

Quick List

  • ASUS ROG Equalizer ($44.64) — Best Overall — ATX 3.1/PCIe 5.1 rated, lowers connector temperatures.
  • Corsair ThermalProtect (Black/White) ($24.00/$24.99) — Best Safety Feature — built-in over-temperature protection.
  • CableMod ModFlex Universal ($24.90) — Best Universal Cable — works with any native 12V-2×6 PSU.
  • Corsair Elite Premium Type 4 ($19.00) — Best Adapter — converts 2x 8-pin to 12V-2×6.
  • Aukuoy ($13.99) — Best Budget Adapter — cheapest way to add a 12V-2×6 connector.
  • EZDIY-FAB 90°/180° ($26.99 each) — Best for Tight Cases — angled connectors for restrictive clearance.

Native Cable vs. 8-Pin Adapter: Which Should You Buy?

If your power supply already has a native 12V-2×6 output, a direct cable like the CableMod or Corsair ThermalProtect options is the safer choice — one connector, one cable run, nothing stacked. If your PSU only has the older 8-pin PCIe connectors, an adapter like the Corsair Elite Premium or Aukuoy converts those into one 12V-2×6 output. Adapters work fine but add an extra connection point, which is exactly the kind of joint that caused reliability complaints on the original 12VHPWR standard — a native cable is the lower-risk option whenever your PSU supports it.

What Changed Between 12VHPWR and 12V-2×6

Both connectors use the same 16-pin layout and carry up to 600W, but 12V-2×6 shortened the sense pins. On the original 12VHPWR, a partially-seated cable could still register as “fully connected” to the GPU while actually drawing full power through fewer load-bearing pins — the main cause of the melting reports. The shorter sense pins on 12V-2×6 mean a partial connection is detected before full power draw begins.

How We Chose These

We ran a second search focused specifically on PCIe 5.1 GPU power cables and 12VHPWR adapters, which added the Fasgear extension and two EZDIY-FAB angled adapters to our original list. We excluded one listing that was actually a full power supply (included only because its description mentioned “native 12V-2×6 cable included”) since it’s the wrong product type for a cable-focused guide, and kept the PSU-specific CableMod Dual Kit clearly labeled as Corsair SHIFT-only rather than presenting it as universal.

Questions

Is 12V-2×6 the same connector as 12VHPWR?

Physically compatible and interchangeable — same pin layout and power rating — but 12V-2×6 has the improved shorter sense-pin design. They’ll plug into the same GPU and PSU ports either way.

Do I need a 12V-2×6 cable if I’m not using an RTX 40 or 50-series GPU?

No — this connector is specific to GPUs that actually have a 12V-2×6/12VHPWR power input, mainly higher-end RTX 40 and 50-series cards. If your GPU uses standard 8-pin PCIe connectors, none of these cables apply.

Does the cable brand need to match my PSU brand?

Only for PSU-specific connector designs like Corsair’s SHIFT line (the CableMod kit above is built specifically for that). Universal 12V-2×6 cables work with any PSU that has a standard native 12V-2×6 output, regardless of brand.
